Self-Compassion and Makeup

You might be wondering where I’m going with this blog title.

The amount of self-compassion that you show towards yourself shouldn’t depend on how much makeup you are wearing.

Self-compassion shouldn’t be based upon how you cover up your authentic self with the makeup you put on. Self-compassion is knowing that you’re beautiful even without wearing makeup. Makeup should be used to enhance your self-compassion towards yourself.

We need to be aware of how we talk to ourselves when we are putting on makeup. We need to be kind to ourselves instead of saying sharp words to ourselves.

Here are some examples of what I mean.

First Example

This makeup makes me look better.

Change your thoughts to…

This makeup is fun to play with and it looks great on me.

Second Example

I wish I would have better eyelashes than this. Then I wouldn’t have to wear these.

Change your thought process to…

These false eyelashes make my eyes pop!

Self-Compassion and Makeup

Do you get what I’m saying? Does this make sense? We cannot work on improving ourselves on the outside but then turn around and talk badly about ourselves when we are doing our makeup.

I’ve caught myself in the past. It’s something I’ve been working on since 2019. Instead of saying sharp words to myself I turn those thoughts and feelings into something positive.

The way you view yourself depends on how you treat yourself. If you view yourself as being worthy of love then you will treat yourself with love. If you think you are unworthy of love then you’re going to be mean to yourself.

Self-compassion is a must in order to survive in this tough world. Not everyone is going to like or love you. So it’s our job to love who we are.
