Let’s talk about self care. This is something that I will admit I haven’t focused on. Self care and self compassion are simular but they are different. I Googled the two terms and this is what I found from Prodective Flourishing.
“Self–compassion is regarding yourself compassionately. Self–care, by contrast, is treating yourself compassionately. The two terms sound interchangeable, but they contain a thinking versus doing distinction. This is important because people can go through the motions of self–care without having self–compassion.”
This is true! Self care is important for self compassion and we all need to be working on that.
Coffee. Coffee can be self care. Coffee is a little way to treat yourself. It doesn’t have to be one of those expensive brands. It can be a fresh cup of coffee from the comfort of your home. Coffee warms the soul and puts a smile on your face. The other part of self care comes in when you pick out that coffee mug that you will be sipping from.
Self care comes in play when you are reaching for a mug. You go to grab that pink mug but you decide to go with the mug that has a self care saying on it. Little actions that we take fuels how we act upon our self care.
We have to be more mindful of the way we treat ourselves. The way we treat ourselves is a reflection to others. Self care and compassion go hand in hand. You’ve got to do one in order to do the other. It takes practice but I’m sure it can be done.
Go grab a cup of coffee and enjoy your self care moments. Remember which mug to drink from too.
